Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician from the United States. Born on October 20, 1964, she is the 49th Vice-President of the United States. Harris is the first vice president to be female and highest-ranking female official of U.S. History, as also the first African American and second Asian American vice president. A member of Democratic Party, she has previously served as attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017, and as an United States senator representing California until 2021. Harris was born and raised in Oakland, California. Her career began in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was appointed district attorney for San Francisco. Harris was elected Attorney general of California in the year 2010. In 2014, she was elected to a second term. Harris was the junior United States Senate from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez during the 2016 Senate elections to become the 2nd African American woman, and the first South Asian American, to be a senator in the United States Senate. As a senator, Harris advocated for healthcare, federal de-scheduling and legalization of cannabis, a path to citizenship of undocumented immigrants, and the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. The attention of the nation was drawn by her shrewd questions of Trump administration officials during Senate sessions. The most notable was Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual abuse.
